Best blogs for smart single moms in 2019

I want to share with you five blogs I’ve discovered recently that are really worth taking a look at! (Some are great blogs for any parent, including dads.)

Best blogs for smart single moms in 2019

1. The Gottman Institute

Let’s start with my number one favourite. This blog is great for any parent who loves research-based, well thought out parenting advice. I can’t stop raving about the Gottman Institute and the research they do on relationships. I would highly recommend their blog and books, both for parenting and romantic relationships. (You might have noticed that many of my own blog posts are based on their research.)

2. Growth and Grit

I just came across this one the other day. They have courses and a couple of blog posts, but what I really like about this site is that it has research-based information (whole-brain, positive discipline, pro-active parenting) and some great free resources and courses with practical help for parents! We might even have a free course of theirs to give away to one of you soon, so keep an eye out for that!

3. (Step)momming

This blog (and Facebook group) is not just for step-moms. They have support and fantastic posts that are helpful for any mum in a co-parenting, single parenting, second marriage, or step-parenting position. Their posts are positive and emphasise cooperation, but they also don’t ignore the fact that coparenting can be incredibly difficult at times.

4. Love Terri

I’ve included this blog as one of my favourites even though it’s not really a parenting site. Terri Cole is a trained clinical psychotherapist, mentor and coach for women. She mainly covers topics that deal with creating healthy boundaries, looking for love, and self-care. Her blog, videos and podcasts are incredibly empowering for women, especially those who are healing after a difficult relationship. If we want to be great single mums for our kids we need to take care of ourselves too!

5. Emma Johnson

This blog is for single mums wanting to take control of their lives and finances. I’ve included Emma Johnson’s blog because, even though a lot of the information is American based and doesn’t apply here in New Zealand, she is just so incredibly inspiring!! She makes you want to stand up and scream “Yeah Single Mummas! We can do this!” Well, that’s what she does for me anyway! Hopefully, whatever stage you’re at financially and in your parenting journey, you’ll find her inspiring too.
